  1. You need of butter, softened (room temperature).
  2. Prepare of granulated sugar.
  3. Prepare of egg, beaten (room temperature).
  4. You need of granny smith apples, cored, peeled & diced (2 cups; 2 apples is probably enough).
  5. It’s of ⁄4 cup chopped walnuts.
  6. Prepare of vanilla extract.
  7. It’s of baking soda.
  8. It’s of baking powder.
  9. You need of salt.
  10. You need of ground cinnamon.
  11. It’s of ground nutmeg (this is a bit much for my taste).
  12. It’s of all purpose flour.

Irish Apple Cake instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Generously grease an 8-inch square cake pan.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy (use hand mixer).
  4. Add the egg, apples, nuts and vanilla and stir well.
  5. Sift in the dry ingredients and mix well.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan & bake about 45 minutes, until the cake is lightly browned and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean..
  7. Remove from over and let the cake set in the pan for 5 mins, then remove from pan (I didn't remove it)..
  8. Serve warm or at room temperature with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream..
