- You need 1 lb of apples (sour if possible).
- It’s 4 oz of sultanas.
- Prepare 6 oz of butter/soft margarine.
- Prepare 12 oz of self raising flour.
- It’s 1 tsp of ground ginger.
- You need 6 oz of sugar.
- You need 3 of eggs.
Dorset Apple Cake instructions
- Peel, core and grate apples.
- Mix flour, ginger and butter / margarine together until it resembles crumbs.
- Add sugar, apples and sultanas..
- Beat the eggs and add to mixture..
- Mix until well combined.
- Grease and line a 2 lb loaf tin, pour mixture in, level top..
- Bake at 180C for 1 hour, until a skewer / toothpick comes out clean..
- Allow to cool in tin for 10 minutes then tip out on to wire rack to cool..
- Serve. Can be served warm or cold.
- You can substitute ground cinnamon for the ginger..
